Tommy Saboda of Plymouth, Minnesota clocked in at 9:40 am EST on Wednesday, November 12, first into the in-box with the correct answer to the third installment: Joan Didion.

Some of the other quick responders guessed Harold Pinter, Norman Mailer, Sam Shepard, Philip Gourevich, Salman Rushdie, Truman Capote.

Runners-up who sent the correct answer, Joan Didion: Jaime Guerrero in Monterrey, Mexico, who came in second at 9:54 am EST; Elizabeth McCullough of Charlottesville, Va, at 10:12 am EST; Andy Shelden, also of Charlottesville, at 10:27 am EST: David Abrams of Forest, VA, at 10:33 am EST; Joseph Dinan at 10:54 am EST; Eric Smith at 11:43 am EST;Dawn Rennert of Concord, MA, at 11:51 am EST.
