Norwegian Critics Awards Night

This just in from Alf Wagermo, reporting on behalf of the Norwegian Critics’ Association, that country’s NBCC equivalent. On Thursday 6th of March the author Carl Frode Tiller was awarded the Critics’ prize for best book of fiction. Tiller’s novel “Entanglement” (Norwegian: “Innsirkling”) is the story of a man who has lost his memory completely and can’t remember who he is. The author uses different narrators that undermine each other’s stories, trying to make the person remember again by writing letters to him about their relations in the past.
The Critics’ prize for best children’s book was given to Fam Ekman, for her picture-book “Call Me Uncle Alf” (Norwegian: “Kall meg onkel Alf”).
The Critics’ prize for best translation was given to Stig Sæterbakken, for his Norwegian translation of the Swedish author Nikanor Teratologen’s original work, “Äldreomsorgen i Övre Kågedalen.”
Anne Merethe Prinos, who writes for the national daily newspaper Aftenposten, was elected Best Critic.
