Successful Novels=Successful Films

Incoming NBCC board member David Ulin looks at the literary lineage of contemporary films in “More novel-based films are staying truer to their source,” his piece in yesterday’s Los Angeles Times. Ulin quotes NBCC member Paul Wilner’s Critical Mass guest post on what was missing at the SAG awards. Three of the five nominees for this year’s “best picture” Oscar are drawn from successful novels—“Atonement” (Ian McEwan), “No Country for Old Men” (Cormac McCarthy), and “There Will be Blood” (Upton Sinclair), with the Cormac McC favored to win.
