Awards Voting Season for NBCC Members

by Jane Ciabattari | Nov-24-2009

It’s that time of year again, time to cast your votes for the best books you read in 2009. Your votes have a tremendous influence on the NBCC’s annual book awards. Why? Because any book that receives votes from 20% of the NBCC voting membership is automatically included among the finalists that we announce to the public on January 23, 2010 at Housing Works in New York City.

Several years ago, your votes turned two terrific books into NBCC Finalists: Michael Pollan’s “The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals” and Alison Bechdel’s “Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic.”

So please, take the time to cast your votes by December 15 th this year. All NBCC voting members with dues paid up should have received an emailed personalized survey with instructions on how to vote (if you did not receive the individualized email with the survey link, please email davidvarno@gmail.com).

All books you nominate must have been published in English in the United States for the first time during 2009 to be eligible for an NBCC award. Generally, translations are eligible if the first English translation of the work was published in the United States in 2009. You may vote for up to 5 books in each category--autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, nonfiction, poetry--and your votes must received by December 15, 2009. You must be a voting-member of the NBCC to nominate books for the NBCC book awards.
