A busy schedule over the next few weeks. Just a few of the offerings:
Tuesday, February 24, 8 pm. “Global Correspondences,” a reading by Andre Acimen, Edward Albee, Anthony Appiah, Ron Chernow, Lydia Davis, Deborah Eisenberg, Nathan Englander, Janet Malcolm, Francine Prose, and Sarah Ruhl to benefit PEN America journal. Thursday, February 26 through Saturday, February 28, a three-day Festival of New French Writing at NYU’s Vanderbilt Hall, French and American authors in conversation (simultaneous translation provided), all free. Festival kicks off Thursday night with multiple NBCC award winner E.L. Doctorow and Olivier Rolin (Sam Tanenhaus moderating) at 7:30 pm, followed by NBCC award winner Francine du Plessix Gray in converation with Marie N’Dyae. Friday’s events begin with Marie Darrieussecq and Adam Gopnik at 2 pm, followed by Philip Gourevitch and Abdourahman Waberi, Bernard Henri-Lévy and Mark Danner at 4:30, and on it goes.
Monday night, March 2. Memorial service for esteemed critic, editor, and novelist John Leonard at 6:00 PM at Landmark on the Park, 160 Central Park West (between 75th and 76th Streets). Participants include Toni Morrison, Victor Navasky, Gloria Steinem, Eugenia Zukerman, Eden Ross Lipson, E.M. Broner, and family members.
Saturday, March 7. Book Prize winner Peter Carey, author of His Illegal Self, with WNYC’s Leonard Lopate at the Brooklyn Public Library at 4 pm. Location: the Dr. S. Stevan Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture, located at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library, at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn (#2 or #3 train to Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum). Series curator: PW’s Charlotte Abbott.
