James Shapiro’s Book Review Course at Columbia on Hiatus?

by Eric Banks | Oct-01-2009

In the New York Observer, Leon Neyfakh reports that “Lil’ Lionel Trillings Will Have to Fend for Themselves” as James Shapiro’s course “The Book Review” goes on “indefinite hiatus.” “There are intellectual reasons to teach the course again,” Shapiro told Neyfakh, “but what’s no longer there is the possibility of training a generation of book reviewers, since, as you know, newspapers around the country are shedding their book reviews, or shrinking these sections.”
