Parties for the summer issue of Zoetrope:All Story this month included a Sunday afternoon up in Geyserville at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery. Sunshine, vineyards, distant mountains, generous complimentary pours of Coppola’s new Diamond Malbec (with label the celestial blue of the Argentine flag), steak bites with chimmi churra sauce. Sated, literary fans and winetasters sat in the cool darkness of the Barrel Room for a reading by winemaker Sandy Walheim of half of Coppola’s new short story “Tetro” from the new issue. (Tease!) The story is the basis of his new film “Tetro,” filmed over two years in Buenos Aires with Vincent Gallo starring. Winemaker mentions that “Tetro” is now showing in San Francisco, Santa Rosa. Malbec for sale by the case, twinkling blue in the corner. Drawing for free year-long subs to the magazine. Clever Coppola. Sonoma, synergy. Also in the issue: stories by Ha Jin, Kurt Vonnegut, Lysley Tenorio, Pasha Malla, Ryu Murakami.
