David Varno is a freelance critic and a web editor for Publishers Weekly. He received an M.F.A. in Fiction from Columbia University and is a former Dispatches editor for Words Without Borders. His writing has also appeared in BOMB, the Brooklyn Rail, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Electric Literature, Paste, Tin House, and other publications. His current term on the NBCC board ends in 2019.
