The month of June kicked off Reading the World. As part of this project, the NBCC has asked writers from around the globe to recommend a book from beyond these shores. We asked Junot Diaz, author of “Drown,” and the upcoming novel “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao,” what he had to recommend. He came back with a recommendation for “Where We Once Belonged,” by Sia Figiel.
“This bildungsroman by Samoan writer Sia Figiel is evocative smart and lyrical. A gorgeous countersong to COMING OF AGE IN SAMOA.”
