Grove Press publisher Barney Rosset, who brought works by Henry Miller, William S. Burroughs, Samuel Beckett, Malcolm X, and many other authors and filmmakers to mass audiences, has died at 89. In 2001 the National Book Critics Circle honored Rosset by presenting him with the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award.
The New York Times' Arts Beat blog has gathered a variety of interviews, features, and remembrances of Rosset's life and work. Blogger David Hudson has gathered some additional information and links. Last year the newsletter Shelf Awareness published a timeline of Grove/Atlantic's history.
